About Democracy House

Democracy House has been recently renovated inside and out.   Sympathetically restored to combine the elegance of this historic building coupled with all the benefits of modern-day office space.

Democracy House is a property of substance with the intimacy of a working environment that’s a home from home, with the highest quality connectivity expected from a modern office facility.

Our Heritage

Democracy House was a private residence in its former glory and was the childhood home of the author and playwright, Dodie Smith, most famous for her novel  ‘101 Dalmatians’ which was bought by the Walt Disney corporation and turned into a major blockbuster in the early 1960s, which catapulted Dodie into stardom.

Dodie was born in Whitefield in 1896 and raised by her mother, 3 uncles,
2 aunts and 2 maids in Democracy  House until her late teens. She died in 1990, aged 94.

In 2007, Trafford Council unveiled the Blue Plaque in Dodie’s honour at
609 Stretford Road and it sits proudly above the entrance to this historical building.
